Undergoing Laser Hair Removal? 4 Tips That Will Help You Prepare For The Big Day

If you're tired of shaving your legs or your underarms on a weekly basis, it's time to consider laser hair removal. One of the benefits of laser hair removal is that it's permanent, which means you'll never have to shave again. No more worrying about stubble when you choose your wardrobe each day. Before you schedule your laser treatment session, here are four steps that will help you prepare for the procedure:

Let Your Skin Get as Light as Possible

When you go in for the procedure, your skin will need to be as light as possible. The lighter the skin, the easier it will be to see the individual hairs. For at least a month before your visit, stop using tanning products, including self-tanners. If you're going to have the hair removed from your face, arms, or legs, you'll need to apply a sunscreen whenever you go outside, especially if those areas are going to be exposed to the sun. Once you've had the laser hair removal treatment performed, you'll be able to go back to tanning.

Remove Your Hair by Shaving Only

If you normally pluck, or wax away the unwanted hair, you should stop doing that for a few weeks before the procedure. Instead, remove the unwanted hair with a shaver. If you're having portions of your eyebrows removed, simply let them grow until your procedure is completed. You don't want to be shaving the area around your eyes. Be sure to shave about two days prior to the procedure, and then avoid shaving until the day of the procedure. You want the hairs to be visible, but not so long that they're painful to remove.

Clean Your Skin

On the day of your procedure, be sure to take a warm shower, and pay close attention to the areas that will be undergoing the hair removal procedure. Once you've washed, dry out with a clean towel. Don't put on any deodorant, lotions, or body sprays, especially on the areas that will be involved in the procedure. Body sprays, deodorants, and lotions can interfere with the laser procedure.

Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing

When you go in for your laser treatment, be sure to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Your skin may be sensitive to touch for a few days after the procedure. If you're having the hair removed on your legs, you should consider wearing shorts. For underarm treatment, consider wearing a tank top to your procedure.

If you're going to be having laser treatment to permanently remove unwanted hair, use the tips provided here to help you prepare for the procedure. For other questions and concerns, talk to the person who will be performing the treatment.
